The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award
The World’s Premier Activity Programme
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is the world’s leading youth achievement award, bringing together practical experiences, life skills, and fun. It operates in over 140 countries and has encouraged more than 8 million young people to improve their Skills, Service, and Physical Recreation and to complete Adventurous Journeys. Universities and employers look favourably on Bronze, Silver, or Gold International Awards because they demonstrate a student’s commitment to goal setting and achievement.
As the first three sections in the Duke Of Edinburgh’s Award are already part of a CIS education and our students love the opportunities provided for them in the outdoors it made perfect sense to combine the CIS Activities Programme and the Duke Of Edinburgh’s Award to add coherence and opportunity to our students non academic programme. Therefore, Carlsbad International School introduced the International Award during the 2015-2016 academic year.
Grade 9 and 10 students at CIS will be enrolled in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award. Grade 11s will have the option of starting the Duke Of Edinburgh’s Silver Award.
They will continue to pursue their activities programme as part of their school programme but now this will gain them credit towards this prestigious international award sponsored by the British Monarchy.
In addition for three weekends a year they will train, practise and then undertake an adventurous journey as a member of a team. This team will travel, camp and cook together independently in the beautiful Czech countryside surrounding Carlsbad.
