ABOUT THE REGION
Karlovy Vary and the Region
A Gateway To Recreation, Wellness, Culture And Travel
Perfectly situated in Central Europe, Carlsbad International School (CIS) is within easy reach of Prague International Airport and is well connected by road and rail to major cities.
The School is nestled in the beautiful spa town of Karlovy Vary (also known as ‘Carlsbad’) west of Prague.
Western Czechia (Czech Republic) is renowned for beautiful landscapes, with hills and lakes that offer sports and relaxation in every season.
In winter, the slopes nearby and pistes offer excellent skiing and other snow activities.
In summer, river cottages and trails are a superb place to breathe fresh outdoor air in a scenic atmosphere. Hiking enthusiasts enjoy miles of terrain and forested walking trails, with plenty of sunshine to keep the spirits high.
The historic cities around our host city of Karlovy Vary (which quickly gets shortened to “KV”) include Prague, Dresden and Nurenburg; they complement the architecture, artistic and cultural events, music and film festivals found in the city and region.
Also noteworthy are the excellent hotels and restaurants and the vibrant nightlife in our well-known spa and wellness destination.
With a warm tradition for welcoming visitors, this part of Czechia (Czech Republic), centered in the heart of “Bohemia”, has been charming visitors for centuries. They come for both tourism and wellness.
In addition, Prague hosts many international companies and organizations.
Czech is the national language and English, French, German and Russian are also widely spoken. The main language at Carlsbad International Boarding & Day School will be English (all teaching will be in English).
Our ‘hometown’ city of Karlovy Vary (KV) is set on the banks of the Tepla and Ohre rivers, with spectacular hotels and century old architecture. Karlovy Vary means “Charles’ Bath” and was so-named after Charles IV, King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor, who founded the city in 1370.
The town is now a thriving spa and wellness resort and a growing center of commerce. (To read more about Karlovy Vary please click on the link to visit the website for the Karlovy Vary Tourist Office. Look at Karlovy Vary from the bird´s perspective here.)
